Taylor Thompson

I started Modern Counsel because legal help should feel clear, human, and within reach. I work with people and families across Iowa and Missouri on estate planning, probate, and family law, and I approach every matter with the same goal: help you understand your options, protect what matters, and move forward with confidence.

Before starting Modern Counsel, I built my career in litigation and insurance law and later worked in-house advising on strategy, risk, compliance, and contracts. Those experiences taught me how to approach legal problems with both precision and practicality. Today, I use that perspective to help individuals and families navigate estate planning, probate, and family matters with confidence and clarity.

I’m a proud graduate of Truman State University and the University of Missouri–Kansas City School of Law, and I’m an active member of the Iowa and Missouri State Bar Associations.

Community and education are important parts of my life. I serve on the board of the Des Moines Pride Center, where I help support programs that build connection and inclusion. I also teach undergraduate courses in Communication Law and American Law and Society as an adjunct professor, sharing with students how the law shapes everyday life.

Clients describe me as down to earth, detail-oriented, and easy to talk to. My aim is simple: be the advocate you trust with your story.
